  • Music From The HEART ART Blog Post

Art Ache © Todd Stahl  http://www.toddstahl.com
Last week I blogged about my husband Todd’s heart issues and some “Heart Art”. I was overwhelmed with the response. I want to thank so many of you for emailing, messaging, leaving comments on the blog or just letting us know that you would be praying for Todd. It truly meant so much.
If you’re a regular reader you will know that I love music and how much it speaks to me. Music can make an impact in ways that words can fall short of.  Some of you sent MUSIC FROM THE HEART ART BLOG POST and we have been loving them all week long.
I’ve listed the links to the songs you’ve shared with us, who they’re sung by and a few of the lyrics. I want you to be as encouraged as we have been by this great music!

Steven Curtis Chapman’s Song, The Glorious Unfolding.

The words to this song are amazing and spoke to Todd and I in profound ways!  Here are just a few of the lyrics to whet your appetite:

Don’t try to figure it out
Just listen to what I’m whispering to your heart

…this is going to be a glorious unfolding
Just you wait and see and you will be amazed

  • Fearful Timidity vs. Godly Confidence

god has not give us a spirit of fear “For God did not give us a spirit of fear and timidity, but a spirit of power, love and of self-discipline.” NLT
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” KJV
“For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.” HCSV
                             2 Timothy 1:7
When my children were young they struggled with fears as all children do. When these episodes would occur I often quoted this verse to them and had them memorize it. Many a nightmare were stopped and ended in a good night’s sleep with the comfort of this scripture. As they grew older I saw the dangers of allowing them to stay fearful and timid. Timidity stopped them from enjoying all that God had for them. Living with the confidence that God has given them power, love, a sound mind and the ability to be self-disciplined is the message I wanted them to lay hold of.
As I looked up the dictionary meaning of timidity I was fixated on studying the list of Synonyms and Antonyms of the word. The Synonyms (words that mean the same as timidity) are: fainthearted, fearful, fearsome, mousy, scary, skittish, shy, timorous, and tremulous. Who wants to be all that??? No wonder God said He did NOT give us the spirit of all those pathetic characteristics. No one grows up saying “I want to be the mousy, skittish kind of person that is afraid of everything.” No one wants that and God doesn’t want that for us either. So how do we break free of this timidity and gain Godly confidence? If I lived a life of Godly Confidence in His spirit, what would it look like?
The Antonyms (words that mean the opposite of timidity) will help us better understand the spirit that God is offering to us. Here they are: adventuresome, adventurous, audacious, bold, daring, dashing, gutsy, hardy, venturesome, and venturous. Now these are words that I want to be used to describe me, my children, and my children’s children, should the Lord tarry! As believers you have the spirit of God living inside of you! Today, access the spirit of God and walk in the Godly Confidence you’ve been given!
    PRAYER
Father…I thank-you for the truth of your word! I thank-you that it is true no matter if I feel it or not. Help me to live free of fear and timidity. Help me to access your spirit for power and love so that I may use self-discipline to walk in sound-mind, using sound-judgment! May I walk in Godly Confidence! In Jesus Name…Amen!

  • Hovering

    I’m a mom.

I’ve given birth to two amazing people (not really kids anymore), but there are many who call me “mom”. A bunch affectionately call me their “other mom” and some their “camp mom”. Wherever I am, I tend to mother those around me. No matter their age, there’s something in me that wants to make sure everyone is OK and to help people reach their God-given potential.

    eagle in nest with eaglets

“Like an eagle that stirs up it’s nest and hovers over it’s young, that spreads it’s wings to catch them and carries them on it’s pinions”                                                                                                     Deuteronomy 32:11

    God, The Ultimate Hovering Parent!

I love how this Bible verse explains that God is a “hovering” parent but maybe not in the present day understanding of a hovering parent!

As the perfect parent, God can make perfect decisions knowing when to hover, when to stir up, when to push out, and when to catch His kids.

Eagles The Perfect Example of Hovering

eagle feeding babyAs my children have gotten older it’s been a real learning process in knowing when to back off that “hovering” gifting!

Eagles are a perfect example of how to parent people of all ages. When Eagles have young they provide for every need the eaglet has. When the eaglets get a little older, but before they’re ready to leave the nest, before they can fly, the mother, in love pushes them out of the nest!

Push Them Out of Their Nest

Now what kind of parenting is that?

Actually, it’s great parenting! Great leadership!

young eagle flying by momThe eagle then spreads its wings to catch the learner and carries them on their pinions. Pinions are the wings that an eagle uses to fly. They are teaching the eaglet how to fly by example.

Pushing people out of the nest when they’re not ready accomplishes so many things. It causes them to place their trust in the one who pushed them out to catch them before they crash. After a few pushes, confidence begins to grow till one day the eaglet starts to soar!

    Learn To Fly

So, is God pushing you out of the nest or encouraging you to let someone else in your care learn to fly? Take that leap of faith and trust that Your father is a hovering parent that never lets anyone hit the bottom when you trust in Him!

    PRAYER

Father…I thank-you for believing in me! Help me to not fear, but jump out of the nest and learn to soar. May I fly in your strength accomplishing all that you have for me to do. May I lead those you have paced in my care to even higher heights than I can go! In Jesus Name…Amen!

  • Divorce and Remarriage

wedding cake in halfThis past Sunday my pastor preached the best sermon I’ve ever heard on the subject of divorce and remarriage.  He’s preaching a series called “Cow Tipping”.  The analogy is tipping over things that are taboo to talk about in the church.  I like how my pastor, Nathan Albrecht isn’t afraid of having an opinion, but he’s always making sure that it lines up with the Bible.  He must study hard for his sermons as he gives so much historical detail that helps me and many others “get it” on a continual basis.  Pastor Nathan isn’t afraid to hold up God’s ideal for marriage that should be our goal as Christians and yet present what he feels is God’s word on how to manage when our lives fall short of God’s ideal.
As a divorced and remarried person I have struggled hard with both these issues.  I never in a million years saw myself ending up in either category!  Neither did my wonderful husband.  Both of us have experienced the heartwrenching pain of divorce but, thankfully we’re experiencing the wonder of love in our second marriage together.
I have never been one to try and make scripture fit my circumstance and really don’t like when people do.  I want to know what the Bible says, even if it makes me uncomfortable!  This sermon truly is the best Biblical message on the topic of divorce and remarriage that I’ve ever heard.  Any sermons that I’ve heard in the past have only centred on one scripture that leaves divorced people like me, feeling like the woman in this cartoon below.  We’re forced to drag around a ball and chain for all to see our past failure…especially when we go to church.  All too often this is why divorced people avoid the church or stop going entirely.
    divorced woman at altar
When I was going through extreme marriage issues in my first marriage, we were seeing an amazing Christian counsellor who helped me not feel like the woman in the cartoon.  He was very much against divorce and tried for years to help us not have to walk that road.  As the years went on and divorce was inevitable, this counsellor brought to my attention other scriptures in the Bible that discuss divorce and remarriage.  Ones other than the lone verse I had heard in church.   Never before had I noticed these verses and I surely hadn’t understood them when I read them.  God used these scriptures to help me understand His complete word on divorce and remarriage, yet never diminishing my belief in God’s ideal for marital relationships.  marriage-divorce-remarriage-ring on Bible pagePastor Nathan used many of these scriptures in his message.  It was the first time that I’ve heard from the pulpit a sermon that truly brought healing to my heart in this area.  There was even one scripture at the end that I had never noticed before that Pastor Nathan quoted.  It helped me understand God more and to learn that He “gets me” way more than I ever imagined.  He really is a God who can sympathize with our sufferings.  To understand, you just have to watch the sermon (Link Below).  I hope you listen to the end because it will revolutionize the way you think about what the Bible has to say regarding divorce and remarriage.  If you feel like the woman in the cartoon…you can be set free!  Let your spirit drink in the truth of God’s Word as it drowns out the opinions of others!

  • My New Friend

Let me introduce you to my new friend new Heather Paton.  When I met her she was all dressed up looking beautiful for the Afternoon Splash Women’s Conference in London, ON.  (In today’s picture she’s looking all tough! Ha! ) Her churches worship team was leading that day and her gorgeous daughter (that she looked too young to have) was on the keyboards.   We seemed to really connect, realized we knew a bunch of the same people and talked about how we hoped to see each other again!  After reading her latest blog I know she’s even cooler than I thought and someone I want to get to know! As I read her blog I could hear her heart more and see that we are women of like passion.  I encourage you to read her blog with the link below.  She tells all about her crazy Spartan Race and the benefit of being part of a team.  It’s amazing to me how God starts friendships and connects you with others.  I think you’ll enjoy getting to know her a little better as I do too 🙂

  • Ladies' Bible Study

Ladies Bible StudyI’m part of a trio.  The only kind I’ll be a part of!  A “Teaching Trio” with my friends Julie and Michelle.  We lead a Women’s Connection, Monday Night Ladies Bible Study group at  FGT Family Church.  Two days ago was an epic night for us girls.  It was our finale for the Season.  One of those happy/sad things.  We were happy to get together, but sad it meant we wouldn’t be meeting for a couple months during the summer holidays.  We’ve become such a close group that Monday nights are going to seem weird not being together!  We’re so close one of our members Rosie shared how we’re not just friends, we’re family.  She and her daughter left Jamaica and have no relatives here.  We are her family.  I agreed with Rose and told her we’re just the pale side of her family 🙂
The night started off with an incredible dinner prepared for us by the Lovely Leah!  We normally do pot-lucks, but this allowed us all to relax and enjoy every part of the evening.  Eight of our sisters shared testimonies of how God has brought them “through” the desert and provided them with water in their desert.  Many while going through my book, WATER IN THE DESERT in the study.  Dawn, Michelle and Susan all shared  how the study and the group helped them when they lost their moms this past year.  Others shared about broken marriages restored by the power of God’s grace.  Kerry shared about how God used her cancer journey to restore so much to her that she is glad she went through that desert!  Powerful stories of God’s greatness in the lives of amazing everyday girls!

We listened to the faith infusing song “I WILL PRAISE YOU” by Rebecca St. James rebecca st jameshttp://www.rsjames.com  Here are some of the lyrics:

JOY, comes in the morning.  The sun is rising, and I wait for you.
STREAMS, flow in the desert.  There’s an oasis, and I wait for you.
WHATEVER the storm, WHATEVER is lost, WHATEVER it takes, WHATEVER the cost…
    I WILL PRAISE YOU!

Every lady that shared told about how God provided streams in their deserts and how He brought joy in the morning!  They are women who have lived out the WHATEVERS in lives and continued to praise God!  They were, and are so inspiring!
Prayer time has become an integral part of our group.  We have seen so many miracles in answer to our prayers.  So often at special events we don’t have our normal prayer time and this event was no different.  Our prayer time was anything BUT normal!  For the girls that could stay, we ended up sitting in a circle sharing our deepest needs, praying together, encouraging each other with words and in The Word!  It really was indescribable how sweet the presence of God was in our midst.  The unity in our group is what opened the door for God to move in such a dramatic way.  Each of these girls touching my life in powerful ways.  If you’re spirit is in need of hydration, you NEED to join a Ladies Bible Study group! Getting into the Word with other Girls will change your life!
Hope you like the pictures of me and my girlfriends!
    xoxo

  • Paneled Walls

“Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?…You have planted much, but have harvested little…Give careful thought to your ways…Why? declares the Lord Almighty. Because of my house, which remains a ruin while each of you is busy with his own house…the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops.”
                                              Haggai 1:3-10 (NIV)
When I read these verses the first thing that came to mind was my grandparents house in the 70’s with all the paneled walls!  paneled wall 70s
They were all the rage. The really cool houses had them back then. Home Reno shows today are still trying to come up with ways to deal with the stuff.paneled wall-ripping down
Back in the time these verses were written paneled walls were a big deal too. It was something the royal families would have in their homes.
    paneld home
These scriptures tell about the time when the Israelites had come back to Jerusalem after their captivity. They were so grateful to God for bringing them back to their homeland that they immediately began to rebuild the temple. But then they got sidetracked and started to rebuild their own homes and stopped working on the temple. God makes it clear to them through the prophet Haggai that their inactiveness in completing what God had called them to do was the reason they were experiencing lack. He confirmed to them that their lagging in doing His will was withholding His blessing from their lives.
How important it is for us to quickly respond in obedience to what God calls us to do. How frustrated God must get with us when He brings us out of something and we let the excitement and thankfulness fade and give way to selfishness. So don’t put up any “paneled walls” in your life. Quickly, move forward in what God has called you to do!
    Prayer
Father…Thank-you for patience in dealing with me. Please reveal any areas where I have held back in fulfilling your calling on my life. Help me to build up YOUR kingdom!  In Jesus Name…Amen.

  • Press On

Image of Keep Calm and Press On
Lately the song you will find me bopping my head to driving my mustang around town is “Wrecking Ball (Press on)” by  Building 429, featuring the beautiful Blanca Reves Callahan.  Blanca is from another one of my favorite bands, GROUP 1 CREW.

Wrecking Ball (Press On) was written by Building 429’s lead singer Jason Roy.  He wrote it after struggling with some issues in his faith, feeling worn out and wondering if he was where God wanted him to be.  Can you relate?  I know we all wonder about this at some point.  The music to this song is SOOO catchy!  The words are powerful.  It’s like an Anthem you can sing declaring your faith in God, even when you “still don’t get it”!  It helps me be more committed to “Press On” no matter what!  I love the name of their album too, “WE WON’T BE SHAKEN”!  Makes me think of life verses of mine.

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised…we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.”  (Hebrews 11:35-36,39 NIV)  In other words…PRESS ON!
I’ve included the words of the song for you ’cause the weather’s getting warmer and you might have the top down on your car.  This way, when you’re jamming out in your car, you’ll know what to sing 🙂

  • A Great Weekend!

Last weekend was awesome!  It started off with a great drive to see my Gram and Son!  My Gram is just the cutest–next to Todd’s Gram!  So blessed to have such wonderful women in my life!  I could never spend enough time with my son!

I drove to Maple and slept over at my amazing friends, Mark and Andrea Giancola’s house.  It was so good to spend time with them.  I could never get enough time with them either 🙂  In the morning Andrea and I went to the Ladies’ Day Away that she organized for the church they pastor, Maple Community Church.  Such amazing women.  We had 27 great girls come out to the event. I had done a retreat for them about 8 years ago so some I knew from before.  I have been getting emails from some of these great girls all week long!  I’ve made some lifelong friends!  Their worship leader, Lindsay Fitch did an outstanding job.  She taught the girls the new song “Water In My Desert” and it became like our anthem 🙂

It was so great to have my sister Lori come to the event and then to go back and stay at her house.  I loved spending time with my nieces and nephew.  My one niece did my nails for church.  I even got to go to church with them and see my youngest niece wearing her first pair of heels!  She’s just like her Auntie Sherry!  A Tom-boy who loves to dress up.  She had her heels on with her hockey team coat!  What a cutie!    My sister spoiled me too!  The Ladies’ Day Away was held at Pine Farms Orchard in King City.  They have the cutest lunch restaurant and store with home decor and delicious, healthy food you can buy prepared.  Lori bought me glasses that say “H2O” all over them!  How cool is that!  Such an awesome sister!

I picked up Shelby and we were on the road again, heading for home…Gabbing all the way!  Now that was a Great Weekend!
Heading to Waterdown tomorrow–I’m sure the journey will be just as Great!
