  • My Fletcher Family Get Together {Feasting with Family}

    Then Jesus took the loaves,
gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people.
Afterward he did the same with the fish.
And they all ate as much as they wanted.~John 6:11 NLT

As I write this post, Todd and I are driving home from my Fletcher family get together so, my heart and stomach are stuffed full!

When I was young, all my family lived within half an hour of each other and we usually ate together at least once a week. If there was a video taping we could’ve been the English version of the family in, My Big Fat Greek Wedding…we were that close and that loud!

Now we don’t all live in the same area so, we value any time we can coordinate…or should I say, when my cousin Angie coordinates…our get-togethers {insert gratitude for Angie}. When we’re together we laugh a lot and eat ridiculous amounts of food! Most of us are so concerned there won’t be enough food that we bring extra, so our buffet is extensive.

The pinnacle of this year’s feast was my cousin Kelly’s chocolate-covered-strawberry-cheesecake-tarts…and they were even better than they sound or than it looks! CHEESECAKE DESSERT

    FEASTING WITH FAMILY

Just like when Jesus fed the 5000; it can be said of every Fletcher family feast, “they all ate as much as they wanted.”  No one leaves our gatherings hungry…just like no one left Jesus’ dinner parties wanting more.  When I could roll myself away from the table, I helped divvy up the leftovers into take-home containers; just like the disciples collected leftover bread and fish into baskets.

I can’t think about my family feast and how Jesus loved people eating together without being reminded of another meal I pray we’ll all share together with Him; the wedding feast of the lamb1.  Scripture fills me with hope as I look forward to that day because I love Jesus, I love food, and I love my family!

[tweetthis]I love Jesus, I love food, and I love my family!…not in that order 🙂 [/tweetthis]

    CAN YOU SEE IT?

Thinking about the largest banquet to be held fires me up! I imagine looking across the table asking Moses to pass the pitcher of water and my long-time-passed grandpa to share the buns while King David plays his harp in the background for dinner music. Envisioning this meal builds excitement for heaven in my heart.

Dream along with me and let your passion for heaven be rekindled. My prayer is that you’ll be left desiring a dinner that doesn’t just fill your belly but satiate to the deepest depths of your spirit and soul.

    Prayer

Father…I’m so thankful for Your heart to bring Your people together and fill us up.  You’re never stingy…You give out of abundance, the abundance of Your love for me so there’s enough left over to share.  I thank You for those you’ve place in my family and ‘framily’…those who fill up both my heart and soul when we meet. Looking forward to seeing You on that big feast in the sky! Until then, I’ll enjoy these meal reminders you provide.  In Jesus Name…Amen

    Girlfriends

This past week was incredible for me!  It’s been crazy busy, but crazy fun!  I’ve seen more friends and family than I have in a very long time…visited with old friends and made some wonderful new ones!  It started off with Monika (friend since youth camp) and I driving to Toronto and only missing one exit off of the highway!  We met up with Annemarie (friend since College) and her lovely daughter Molina (new friend) for one of the LONGEST lunches I’ve ever had the privilege of eating!  Not that I knew what I was eating, but I liked all of it–save the curried chicken 🙂  Annemarie is living such an exotic life now that we at a Vietnamese restaurant!  Soooo good!
Next, Monika and I were off to the Grad ceremonies with Annemarie for our former Bible College.  It was awesome seeing so many friends that I hadn’t seen in years, Profs, Deans and our former School President.  I think the highlight was that the Dean of Women Sue Rodney James remembered me and was so happy to see me!  She yelled out “Sherry Fletcher” and opened her arms wide 🙂  How awesome is that!  I made so many incredible friends in College.  Bonnie I wish you could have been there!  Two of our classmates were honoured!  Craig Burton received a lifetime award for his years of service as the Chairman of the Board and Dale Sanger was the valedectorian for Seminary students as he completed his Masters Degree.  Many friends I’ve stayed in touch with and we’ve been through so much together…love found, love lost, ministry achievements, ministry heartaches, children born, children lost, children married…  Our friendships have sometimes been the hope that kept us going when everything within us wanted to give up!

Monika and I headed to the hotel in Ajax where I was the retreat speaker for two friends churches from Peterborough.  Such an awesome time seeing old friends and making new ones.  I even saw more College friends that attend their churches!  I met the cutest little Worship Leader on the planet and I LOVE her music!  I can’t stop listening to her CD.  You need to check out her website http://www.melina-d.ca and get a copy!  Melina Dulluku I love you 🙂  There were too Amazing worship leaders for the weekend, fun games and a really great time connecting with God!  I couldn’t have managed this weekend without my incredible friend Monika!  Mon, thanks for ALL you did 🙂

The last event was filled with family and friends!  I drove down to speak at the Simcoe, ON Spring Fling Event with my mother-in-law and got to visit with my mom!  At the event I saw Braeside friends, unexpected college friends, some of my old youth group and met some new friends too!  Busy Week yes!  Amazing Week YES!!!  It just makes me realize how important it is to build friendships and keep them growing.  You never know where you’ll be when you might just need one!  Love you all!  ~Sherry

  • Visiting With My Son

Since Brandon lives on his own now over 2 1/2 hours away I value every minute I get with him!  Not that I didn’t value it before, I’m just more aware of it now 🙂  He’s a great son and I’m so proud of the man he’s growing up to be.  Working for my parents he’s helped to increase their sales and allow them free time, something they’re unaccustomed to!

  • Mom & Dad's Induction with Mario Andretti!!!

What an amazing night!  My mom and dad, John and Sharon Fletcher were inducted into the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame for their investment into the sport of Drag Racing.  My parents have owned two NHRA drag strips in Ontario Canada.  I spent most of my life at the race track and driving fast is in my blood!  Dad started racing as a teen.  He became a mechanic and started Fletcher Performance with my mom.  Then he renamed it Fletcher Bros. when his younger brother Danny was old enough to work for him.  By the time I was a young teen my parents had 3 stores that fixed cars, sold used cars and sold high performance race car parts. They had drivers racing cars under the Fletcher Bros. name.  My parents then bought  Dragway Park in Cayuga.  I spent my highschool and College years working at the drags.  What a fun time it was and so good for my family.  My parents sold Dragway Park and bought another track and named it London Motorsports Park.  They worked hard and did so much to further the sport of drag racing in Canada.  This night will be one I remember fondly as my parents were recognized and honoured for their hard work.  It was a proud moment for me!

It was an incredible night made more exciting that my parents received their acceptance into the hall of fame with MARIO ANDRETTI!!!  It was an unbelievable time meeting him.  Spontaneously after the awards ceremony Mario had them auction off his “Checker Flag” socks for charity.  My dad, who has little will-power at auctions couldn’t resist and bought Mario’s socks right off his feet for $550.00.  It brought so much fun to the evening and now my parents have a very funny momento for the family room!  The news of Mario’s auctioned socks hit the Toronto and area newspapers a few times in the week following the ceremony.  I tweeted Mario about it and he actually retweeted me and replied!  We felt like famous people 🙂  Lots of fun!

  • Book Signing-Family Christian Lake Orion, Michigan

This day started out crazy as the store realized that the books weren’t there.  God is so much bigger than our problems!!!  I met amazing people and made lasting connections with so many!   It’s shocking when you don’t get down over things not turning out right and then God turns them into great things.  It was great to have my mother-in-law with me.  She’s been an encouragement to me for so many years!  Love this lady!
I’m looking forward to coming back when I do have books and possibly my hubby’s devotional 40 DAYS IN THE MANCAVE beside mine!  Thanks Family Christian Bookstores!IMG_3033IMG_3034IMG_3035IMG_3036
