“Jesus said to him…go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open it’s mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
Mathew 17:27 NIV
I’m fully convinced that God has a sense of humor! This verse is proof that God can bring provision from anywhere!
If you’ve never noticed this verse in the Bible before, you’ll be spurred on to check it out, making sure I haven’t gone loopy and started making up my own Bible verses! It’s a crazy story in the Bible where the church leaders are reminding Peter that Jesus and his disciples needed to pay the annual Temple Tax required of men 20 years and older. Jesus instructs Peter to do the most logical thing (read with an abundant amount of sarcasm); Jesus tells Peter to go fishing, open the mouth of the first fish he catches, take the money out of the fish’s mouth and bring it back to the Temple to pay their taxes.
At times we can wonder how we are going to be able to make it financially. Economic struggles can keep us burdened down if we don’t remind ourselves that we serve a God of the miraculous who can bring provision from anywhere, even from the mouth of a fish! Surely He can provide for you!
Prayer
Father…I love your humorous side! You are so able to take care of my every need before I even know I have one! I ask you to bring provision for all my needs, in whatever way you decide. I trust Your creativity and thank You in advance for Your timely provision. In Jesus Name…Amen
Dare to share a time when God provided for your needs in an unexpected way?…… Record it in the Comment Section below and bolster the faith of someone else!

Yes, I have a story. I was praying and felt I was to go on a mission trip, I think, to Bolivia. I wanted to go ,but wanted to make sure it was God’s will. I did not have the money for it. I kept praying. The day before I was to make my decision, I got a cheque in the mail from an old insurance policy saying that it was from the interest of it collecting all these years. It was the amount I needed! I then went, knowing the Lord wanted me to go. Sometimes, we can get ahead of God and do things on our own, which I have, but other times, as this one, it was a divine appointment to go! Thanks for letting me share on your beautiful site Sherry!! Love to you this day. Jill
Jill, that’s an awesome story! It always amazes me when you realize that God has been working behind the scenes to bring about our provision even before we asked! He even had you partnering with the provision without knowing 🙂 He lets things stay hidden sometimes so He can reveal them at the time when we need them the most! Much love to you! ~Sherry
I’ve been doing surveys online for a number of years now. I am not getting as many now as when I was younger and more in the age groups looked at by companies. A couple months ago I was wondering how I was going to be able to make it through the month financially. More month left than money type of thing. I got a call from a survey company that wanted to do a 15 minute telephone survey with me about a financial institute I used to use. For my time they paid me $25. It was what I needed. God has so often provided for me in similar ways….a lot of them like getting the coin out of the fishes mouth. God knows my needs and many times I just bring it to Him once and at times no need to mention it and the answer appears. I hope this encourages others out there.
Our Daddy sure is creative!
God provided when my kids ate all the food I just bought for a week and I had the kids and I pray together. An old and dear friend came to Tim Hortons and said “God put You on my heart is there anything I can help u with ?” And I said yes actually I only need like $60 .00 of food for the rest of the week . She told me to meet her at Zehers and took me shopping and after $300.00 worth of groceries she said I forgot the potatoes and a couple of other items and made me go get those items. It was a reminder when God blesses you He does it with extravegant love ❤️and I am thankful to that beautiful lady who obeyed God and showered my faimly and I with amazing blessing and amazing love????
God is so good! He provides beyond what we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20) Thanks for sharing Charlotte!
Such a faith building post. It is so true, God can provide for us in many creative & different ways. May we have eyes to see His provision. Blessings!
Thanks Joanne and may He open your eyes wide!
I just love this scripture, especially since I never really noticed it!! So thank you for sharing this gem, and Jesus’ sense of humor. I need this scripture today, too..as my husband is leaving his job soon without a net! I’m also reminded of God’s abundance grace. Years back we were finishing a documentary film, but needed the editing funds $10K ..exhausted, we could barely think of how to raise the money. Riding a bike home one day, my husband said, ‘I want to give this all up..it’s too hard’ .. A rush of faith swept through me..and I said, ‘we can’t, we have to have faith!’. This is a true story. We wrote home, my husband went to the mailbox and almost fainted. In the mailbox was a $10K check from an anonymous donor. The film –about male childhood sexual abuse and healing, went on to bless thousands of men sexually abused in childhood! It was a project born from prayers…and God never leaves or forsakes us as he uses us in the world for good! Visiting from #raralinkup ..so glad I visited!
Kathy thanks so much for sharing your story! How incredible is our God!!! It’s always at the most difficult of times when the breakthrough is right around the corner. I will be praying for you and your hubby in this new chapter of your lives. Praying God would write an exciting, adventurous, profitable chapter into the book of your marriage and family. So glad you visited and for Kelly Balarie and her #RaRaLinkup connecting us all! Bless ya Sista 🙂
